CECA SL Generation Limited wrapped up a successful stakeholder engagement session at Kissy Dockyard, Freetown, for the construction of a 108-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas plant. This groundbreaking project, Sierra Leone’s first large-scale independent power producer, will significantly enhance the country’s electricity supply by connecting to the existing transmission line and boosting power to Freetown.

CECA SL General Manager Mr. Abu Kamara shared that the project will produce 108 MW under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model and create job opportunities. Mr. Kamara, who also serves as General Manager of Nant Energy, thanked President Bio and Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordination Group Hon. Alhaji Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella for their leadership in advancing sustainable energy projects. Following President Bio’s groundbreaking ceremony and the completion of financial closure, the project is set to begin, with full operations expected by April 2027.

Hon. Alhaji Dr. Yumkella commended CECA SL Ltd. for the initiative, noting that it reflects the success of Sierra Leone’s Independent Power Producer policies and aligns with President Bio’s vision for energy sovereignty. He urged the project to meet its timeline, emphasizing community involvement in safeguarding the infrastructure. Minister Mohamed Raman Swaray highlighted job creation, while Hon. Kekura Vandi and the Kissy Dockyard Section Chief voiced their support for the project’s positive impact on Sierra Leone’s energy future.
