CECA SL Generation Limited wrapped up a successful stakeholders' engagement session at Kissy Dockyard, Freetown, for the construction of a 108 Megawatt (MW) combined cycle gas plant. This groundbreaking project, Sierra Leone's first large-scale independent power producer, will significantly enhance the country's electricity supply by connecting to the existing transmission line, boosting power to Freetown.

CECA SL General Manager, Mr. Abu Kamara, shared that the project will produce 108MW under the Built, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model and create job opportunities. Following President Bio's groundbreaking ceremony and the completion of financial closure, the project is set to begin, with full operations expected by April 2027. Mr. Abu Kamara, general manager of Nant Energy also thanked President Bio and Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordination Group Hon. Alhaji Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella for their leadership in advancing sustainable energy projects.

Hon. Alhaji Yumkella commended CECA SL Ltd. for the initiative, noting that it reflects the success of Sierra Leone's Independent Power Producer policies and aligns with President Bio’s vision for energy sovereignty. He urged the project to meet its timeline, emphasizing community involvement in safeguarding the infrastructure. Minister Mohamed Raman Swaray emphasized job creation, while Hon. Kekura Vandi and the Kissy Dockyard Section Chief voiced their support for the project’s positive impact on Sierra Leone’s energy future.
