The event showcased prominent speakers who emphasized regional energy strategies and projects while fostering connections between U.S. and African stakeholders to stimulate innovation and partnerships in the energy sector.
Key Highlights from Day 1 for Sierra Leone:
1. Hon. Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, Energy Sector Lead, along with Mr. Julius D. Mattai, Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, engaged in productive discussions with executives from Sun Africa, a leading developer of large-scale solar and off-grid energy solutions. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella strengthened ties with “Release by SCATEC”, a prominent Norwegian energy firm that has announced plans for a significant renewable energy project in Kamakwei Town, Karene District. This initiative is set to deliver 40 megawatts (MW) of sustainable power to the area.
3. Minister Julius Mattai delivered an impactful message focused on the energy needs of the mining sector, advocating for investments and partnerships aimed at boosting the mining and energy sector in Sierra Leone.
4. Hon. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella effectively communicated Sierra Leone’s readiness for mutually beneficial investment partnerships, articulating the nation’s current position and its ambitious vision for the coming years.
